Holy Spirit

HOLY SPIRIT AND YOUR SPIRITUAL

Chapter Eight

Now that you have received Jesus as your Savior what do you do next?

  • Grow in grace and understanding!
  • Become a witness for Jesus!  "But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere..." (Acts 1:8 LBT).
  • Let His love flow from within you!  "...If you are thirsty, come to me!  If you believe in me, come and drink!  For the Scriptures declare that rivers of living water will flow out from within.  (when he said living water he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him.  But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.)" (John 7:37-39 LBT).

When you receive Jesus as your Savior, the Holy Spirit comes into your life and dwells in your body, mind and soul.

The Holy Spirit is the third person of God.  God manifested (made known) Himself in the Old Testament as God the Father and spoke to people personally and many times audibly.  In the New Testament He manifested Himself in the person of Jesus Christ and spoke to the people through Him.  Today God speaks to people in the form of the Holy Spirit.  One God manifested in three persons.

  • Jesus promised to send us the Holy Spirit.  "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you.  He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.  The world at large cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him.  But you do, because he lives with you now and later will be in you." (John 14:16-17 NLB).
  • God will anoint you with His Holy Spirit.  Ephesians 5:18 tells us "Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life.  Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you."  The phrase "let the Holy Spirit fill and control you" means to let the Holy Spirit continually fill you to overflowing.  That is what the scripture in John 10:10 means when He says, "I have come that you may have life and that you may have it more abundantly."  "More abundantly"  means blessings from the Holy Spirit overflowing and beyond all imagination.

You will want to study the work of the Holy Spirit.  This is a study within its self.  There are many books on the Holy Spirit.  Be careful and get good counsel before you begin buying books on the Holy Spirit.  All are not biblically sound.  Listed below are some scriptures on the Holy Spirit for your immediate study:
